This is the first in a series of large paintings. For me the fascination
of this hedge is how it has been distorted and damaged
by hedge cutting using a flail attached to a tractor. Some
of the damaged branches have joined to each other, you can
clearly see the line at the top of the picture where the flail has
smashed both large and small growth and then left alone for
some years allowing substantial growth to grow beyond that
point. There is a broken branch laying across the hedge, now
stripped of its bark. Behind the hedge is a wire fence, allowing dried leaves and twigs to build up further barrier.
